Meditation

If you haven’t already heard, meditation is simply a way to relax. It can do wonders. Some say that while meditating, you can “find yourself”, or discover new things about yourself. I’m not sure about that, but anything is possible, you merely have to believe. So, let’s get started on explaining how to meditate.
You’re going to want to be comfortable. There are people who say that you have to be in a yoga position, a certain kind of environment, or even total silence to be able to meditate, but that’s totally untrue. You can be anywhere, around anyone, in any position; as long as you are comfortable. I cannot begin to stress the need for comfort if you’re a beginner. Sit in your Lay-Z-Boy, on your sofa, lie in your bed if you like, just be still and get comfy.
Once you’re comfortable, you have to clear your mind. A simple visualization will do the trick. Imagine total darkness. Within the darkness, place a trash can, a dumpster, or even a treasure chest; I personally will be using the dumpster. Now, start with the one thing that’s currently on your mind. Bring it up onto your mental screen in the form of a picture. Dump this picture into the dumpster. Now, bring up your next thought and do the same. Continue doing this, adding more speed as you go, until you can visualize all of your thoughts as a river of pictures draining into the dumpster. Once all of your thoughts have filled the dumpster, close the lid and lock it in some way to where you cannot open it. Remove the dumpster from your mental screen.
Now, your mind is clear of everything but darkness. Concentrate on nothing for a while. Even with your eyes closed, allow them to go out of focus, paying attention to the sensation. Calmly sit in the darkness for a while.
When you are ready, you will begin breathing in rhythm. Breathe in a slow, steady stream of air through your nose. As you do so, imagine the air filling your body, going throughout you, all the way to the tips of your fingers and toes. Hold it for a moment, then exhale through your mouth, visualizing the air flowing out of you.
Now, you are successfully meditating. Sit and do this for as long as you like; it can be very soothing. Eventually, you will be able to clear your mind as well as feel the air flowing in and out of you without any visualizations. Some people go on to visualize themselves in a calming place, such as a secret waterfall or a secluded cabin in the forest, but it's basically the same as sitting in the darkness. I prefer to sit in the darkness, but it’s all up to you. Once you are done meditating, move onto other exercises, and you should find that the meditation helps.
